I think the best way to bid adieu to Neil Armstrong (the first man on the moon) is to show this video of a brief report from ABC on the life and times of a space icon. It was only recently that I was blogging about what flags remained on the moon from the various Apollo missions. The one flag missing was from the Apollo 11 mission. Fellow crew member Buzz Aldrin had said that he saw the flag being blown over as the module left the moon.
Bid Adieu to Neil Armstrong
There’s a lot of talk about the most famous quote from that landing and whether the lines were fluffed or not, but the one that sticks with me is this…
Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.
Now the team of three are two. Aldrin and Collins carry the flag of that mission. It is amazing to think that two days before the landing, a message from the then President Nixon had been prepared in case they didn’t make it. Thankfully for them and their families they did, that message was archived and history was made.
I bid adieu to to Neil Armstrong and thank him for the inspiration and send condolences to his family.
